A Master is someone who is not just skilled at something, but excellent or extraordinary at it. There is a reason there is a college degree called Masters. Think Bruce Lee, Vidal Sassoon, Tony Hawk, Kelly Slater, Alexander McQueen, and many many more. How could we become a master at your craft like the masters we just mentioned? This applies to many and any industry, but today we will focus on Hairdressers and Estheticians.
Have you ever heard of the 10,000 hour rule? They say it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become a master at something. That equals over 416 days! The problem with this theory is that it doesn’t take into account the persons talent, creativity, vision, taste, What & How they’re practicing, and the resource itself. In our salon, there is an associate program in place, and the time it takes to graduate depends on the individual. Customized education for the individual becomes key instead of cookie cutter education. Find a salon or spa that will help you get the best education possible even if it takes a long time. Those 10,000 hours will be well worth it.
An amazing quality that true masters show is Humility and Open Mindedness. Being humble naturally attracts people to them. Arrogant and conceded masters are out there as well, but not very well liked by peers, and on the other hand LOVED by dramatic reality tv. Stay humble as you gain skill and confidence. Confident is not the opposite of being humble. There is a humble way to be confident.
Becoming a Master is not like retirement, especially in the Beauty Industry. Theres constant change in technology, techniques, and trends. Continued education and practice is essential to stay as a master. Our educators and staff at The Salon Professional Academy strive to provide the best education possible so that our students have the foundational education to become masters at their craft.
Whether its the Cosmetology or Esthetics Program, these 2 courses look nothing like the programs that were offered 20 years ago. We believe in progression, not regression. We want nothing more than our students to become master hairdressers or master estheticians.
With much Love,
Ty Isobe
