Next on the list for The 5 Senses of Beauty is Hearing. How does this have anything to do with the Beauty Industry, you say? Let’s consider both literal and figurative versions of this.
In the salon or spa, there are some tools that may make some loud noises that may distract our guests from their experience. For example, until I started using a Dyson blowdryer, I could barely hear my guests when they were trying to talk to me during a blowdry. With the Dyson, those problems are nonexistent, and may also encourage our guests to purchase for themselves because of it.
Another example would be a classic hooded dryer vs rotating heat ring. The noise factor is definitely significantly louder with a hooded dryer. Maybe your clippers need upgrading so that it has upgraded technology that allows the tool to be quieter. What other tools can you think of that fits in this category?
Music is something that people have a hard time agreeing on. It typically changes depending on the demographic, but ultimately up to the salon or spa, until someone complains about it… We are careful with the selection of music in the salon, and use spotify to keep the genres rich, appropriate, familiar, and upbeat. Volume obviously also is part of this discussion, and depends on the vibe of the salon and guests.
Lastly, the figurative interpretation of the sense hearing, its about listening to our guests needs and wants. Guests are often disappointed and frustrated when they feel like they are not heard and cared for. It’s important to have small talk to get to know each other, have a fun time, let them vent to you, however, at the end of the day its most important to take care of the services they are paying for. Listening to what they need and want will elevate the consultation, improve the choice of services being performed, and ultimately increase retail.
In conclusion, lets always keep our mind on how we can elevate our guests salon experience. Whether its listening to everything they say, or elevating the noise experience in the salon/spa. In our next blog, lets discuss the sense Vision
